Orin Hoffman joins The Engine as Venture Partner

We’d like to welcome Orin Hoffman to The Engine as a Venture Partner on the investment team. Orin brings a depth of experience in government and startups, a rich technical background and deep expertise in product development. His experience will be instrumental as The Engine continues to support and connect a growing Tough Tech ecosystem, comprised of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers, leaders in academia and business, investors, policymakers, and more.

Most recently, Orin was a senior government civilian at the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental where he served in both investment and CTO roles. Prior to DIUx, Orin was Chief Technologist at Endeavor Robotics (later acquired by FLIR Systems), where he led product development and headed external partnerships with universities, government research labs, and technology programs. Orin started his career in R&D at iRobot, where he led the development and deployment of robotic systems to various disaster and conflict responses. Orin holds BA and MS degrees in physics and electrical computer engineering as well as several patents.

Additionally, we are thrilled to share today that Ann DeWitt — who joined us as COO last year to lead operations — is now General Partner at The Engine. In the past year, Ann has been incredible in building out The Engine’s corporate network and program to support Tough Tech startups making scientific and technological breakthroughs. Her background in life sciences and engineering have been pivotal in helping the Tough Tech startups in The Engine’s portfolio chart their road from lab to marketplace.
